Presented by Helen Tainsh, senior speech pathologist and qualified PODD presenter. This workshop will take place in Glen Waverley, Victoria from 9:00am - 4:00pm on Friday 10th May, 2024.

This one-day workshop will provide parents and families, support workers, teachers, teacher assistants, and other communication partners with information and strategies to more effectively interact with and teach individuals who are learning to use PODD communication books.

What to expect: Video and case examples will be used to discuss frequently asked questions about using PODD communication books, including:

What is a PODD communication book?

What are the purposes for using a PODD communication book?

How does PODD differ from other types of communication aids/other approaches to teaching symbols?

Is this approach supported by current theoretical and research literature?

Why is there so much vocabulary?

Why should we use a PODD communication book with this person?

Is a PODD communication book appropriate for this person?

How is it used? When do I use it? What do I need to do?

How do we teach people to communicate?

Participants will also have the opportunity for hands-on practice with tips for learning to use PODD communication books to communicate in daily life.

Please note: people who are responsible for prescribing and cutomising PODD communication books need to attend a PODD two day introductory workshop.

This workshop will be catered for morning tea and afternoon tea. Please bring your own lunch.
