Picture of Joy

Tea and coffee will be provided. Bring your own lunch.

Led by artist Bethany Neck, this workshop invites you to explore what brings joy to your life. Drawing on inspiration from images, words, patterns and colours, you will create a unique design that is personal and meaningful, using your preferred art materials. You will transform a round, square, or A4 piece of watercolour paper into a personalized work of art. Your creation will be a perfect fit for the cover of a journal.

Step 1 - Through shared discussion, you’ll associate images, words, patterns or colors to each item on your list.

Step 2 – On a square or round or A4 practice paper template, you’ll create a simple design that’s unique and meaningful to you!

Step 3 – Once your design is complete, you’ll paint or colour in sections at a time, on a piece of round, square of A4 watercolour paper, using art materials of your preference: colouring pencils, pen & wash or watercolours. If you wish, you can stick your completed artwork onto your A4 journal that will be supplied.

Watercolours, coloured pencils and A4 journal supplied. Please bring any other art materials that you would like to use (such as acrylic paints). Includes morning tea.

Please start collecting images, photos, patterns or symbols that reflect joy in your life and bring them to the Workshop.

To simplify choices, you may decide to use photos or magazine pictures of local animals, flora and fauna as your choice of images. Bethany will have some stencils and images available and you may also use your phone or tablet to google images if necessary.

Joyful images might include: cultural influences, beliefs, symbols, favourite activities, significant others, events, dreams and aspirations.

Part of the Winter Words program.
