The Pickle District’s first family-friendly day-into-night festival on Saturday May 25th. This FREE open access arts event will take over the precinct from 3pm to 9pm.

Open access to local art galleries, live music, film screenings, hobby workshops (ticketed), with plenty of eats and drinks. Plus a local producers and makers markets shining the spotlight on the humble pickle!

Over 100 years ago the precinct was home to pickle, vinegar and jam factories. Pickle After Noon is a salute to all pickles of past and present times, the economic and social contribution they made to the development and health of WA via a 4,000 year history of multicultural kitchens around the world. The overpowering smell of vinegar which once permeated this historic area may be long gone, but memories remain!

Come and get pickled! Follow the map and roam through The Pickle District.

THE PICKLE DISTRICT

The Pickle District is a burgeoning arts hub in West Perth nestled between the city, Leederville and Northbridge. Home to art galleries, design and photography studios, a boutique theatre and event spaces, all within a 300m radius.

This designated arts district within the City of Vincent is avidly followed by the community for its creative events. Light shows, exhibitions, live music, moving theatre - the district's After Dark Series has become a vital part of the Perth arts scene.

After Dark first emerged in May 2021, the district triumphantly rolled out four events in the series over the past three years. This year The Pickle District will see the light of day with a Pickle After Noon on Saturday May 25th. After Dark will return for its 5th outing in 2025.

By bringing people together for creative events and community connection, this relatively unknown, gritty little pocket of Perth is a new place to explore.

Why “The Pickle District”?
The original Tandy’s Preserves and Pickle Factory which operated in this area in 1917 inspired our name. Back then, residents would line up for pickles while complaining about the noxious vinegar odours wafting from the factory. The Old Pickle Factory still stands 100 years later.

What’s the big dill about pickles?
Who would ever have thought that the humble pickle could be so important to our history, health and culture?

Fact is that the vinegar brewing and pickle and jam factories which operated here over 100 years ago were an absolutely essential part of the WA family diet and lifestyle!

This old manufacturing base, now a thriving arts hub, is the perfect place for the Pickle District’s first family fun day festival, Pickle After Noon.

It’s a salute to all pickles of past and present times, the economic and social contribution they made to the development and health of WA via a 4,000 year history of multicultural kitchens around the world.
