Petals & Pixels : An Ikebana & Macro Photography GR MEET

GR SPACE BRISBANESpring Hill, QLD
Saturday, Feb 28 from 1 pm to 4 pm AEST
Overview

Join us for a special three-hour Ikebana workshop that celebrates the quiet beauty of flowers and the Ricoh GR camera’s powerful macro mode.

This intimate session invites participants to slow down, observe closely, and experience how structure, balance, and negative space come together in Japanese floral art, while also exploring how these elements translate through the lens.

Led by Chieko Klerkx

The workshop is led by Chieko Klerkx, a Brisbane-based Ikebana artist whose work has been exhibited at Queensland Art Gallery / GoMA. Chieko brings many years of teaching experience from Queensland universities and is known for her calm, thoughtful approach to both beginners and experienced creatives.

What You’ll Experience

  • An introduction to the principles and philosophy of Ikebana
  • Hands-on creation of your own floral arrangement
  • Guidance on observing form, texture, line, and detail
  • Time to photograph arrangements using the Ricoh GR’s macro mode
  • A relaxed, small-group setting with personalised instruction

All materials are provided, including:

  • Fresh florals
  • Vases
  • Scissors and tools

Participants will take home the flowers from their arrangement at the end of the session.
