COURSE OVERVIEW:
This comprehensive masterclass is designed to empower the dental team to recognise, monitor and treat periodontal and peri-implant diseases successfully. An evidence-based approach is essential to the management of these conditions. This course will give participants a thorough overview of the current principles of treatment and will include a hands-on element to give participants the opportunity to follow the complete Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol first on simulation models then clinically on one another.
The latest, research-based strategies and techniques to aid the dentist and hygienist will be examined in detail. The course will also elaborate on the ways to communicate with patients.
Learning objectives:
- Describe how to assess an implant, know the protocol for probing, monitoring and recognising the signs of a failing implant
- Identify the difference in periodontal diseases and peri-implant diseases to master disease diagnosis
- How to use GBT to help manage and treat periodontal and peri-implant diseases
- Have hands-on experience of correctly probing and using AIRFLOW®, PERIOFLOW® and PIEZON®
- Understand how to provide greater comfort to patients during clinical procedures and home care
- Understand the complications that can occur with perio and implant treatment and learn techniques to minimize potential complications
- Develop further understanding of referral pathways and when to refer
YOUR EDUCATOR: Prof Axel Spahr (MRACDS (Perio))
Prof Spahr is Head of Discipline Restorative and Reconstructive Dentistry and Subject Area Periodontics as well as Deputy Head of School at The University of Sydney Dental School. He is also Head of the Department Periodontics at the Sydney Dental Hospital.
Axel is the former Head of Periodontics at the University of Ulm in Germany and has worked at various international universities and research facilities. He has additional training in microbiology, molecular biology, extensive experience in basic science research, animal research and clinical research. Prof. Spahr’s research interest includes periodontal regeneration, bone regeneration, periodontitis and systemic diseases, antimicrobial therapy as well as dental implants and peri-implant diseases. He has led large externally funded research projects and is collaborating with leading international research groups and companies in the field of periodontology, implantology and bone regeneration. He is the author of numerous publications in international peer-reviewed dental and medical journals, book chapters and has presented his work at professional conferences worldwide. Prof. Spahr is a board registered periodontal specialist, he works part-time in an established specialist periodontal and implant practice in Sydney and is the past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), the International College of Dentists (ICD), and the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA).

The Swiss Dental Academy [SDA] reserves the right to refuse/cancel registrations. If the SDA refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a refund.
Event Cancellation by The Swiss Dental Academy
The Swiss Dental Academy reserves the right to cancel a course due to low enrolment or other circumstances which would make the event non-viable. If the SDA cancels a course, registrants will be offered a full refund. Should circumstances arise that result in the postponement of a course, registrants will have the option to either receive a full refund or transfer registration to the same course at the new, future date.
Registration Cancellation by Participant
If you are unable to attend the SDA, we welcome substitute delegates attending in your place at no additional cost but they must meet the registration requirements. All requests for substitutions must be received via email at least 24 hours before the event with name, job title, practice details and contact email for both the registered and replacement attendees: tacret@ems-ch.com
The deadline to receive a refund is (7) seven business days before the event. Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund. Refunds will not be available for registrants who choose not to attend a course. Cancellations will be accepted in writing only and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline: tacret@ems-ch.com. Refund requests must include the name of the attendee.
