This workshop focuses on short research presentations (typically 3-5 minutes) that place particular demands on the presenter. It answers questions such as: what should one include? What information might not be needed? How can I get a message across to non-specialist audiences or the general public?
The workshop uses the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) format as the archetype ‘short presentation’, and would be particularly valuable to graduate researchers involved in 3MT.
Topics covered include:
- Working out what people need to know about your research
- Finding the ‘hook’ in your research
- Answering the ‘so what’ question
- Working with minimal visual materials (e.g. one Powerpoint slide)
By undertaking this workshop, participants will develop the capacity to apply effective short presentation principles to their own research topics.
