Peeling the Lemon
Event Information
Description
Still life art can reveal the presence, beauty and history of everyday objects that surround us. John Bennett’s illustrated talks, Peeling the Lemon and Glass – Art & Reflection, will stimulate your appreciation of Still.
In these illustrated talks, John gives an entertaining account of the multifaceted nature of the still life genre, from Elizabeth Cummings to Coorte, Morandi to Magritte, Andy Warhol to Zurbarán and the current show. Manet and Mattisse were mesmerised by the Dutch masters who developed the still life genre in a particular cultural setting which we have inherited. Discover the genre’s possibilities: from meditation, visual spectacle, fierce gaze, playful techniques to political commentary and more.
