National Computational Infrastructure (NCI)

Developed by NCI Training, this Parallel Python workshop is designed to teach cutting edge techniques to work with and process big data.

The Ross Hohnen Room (Ground Floor)

** PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW SOLD OUT; HOWEVER WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO REGISTER ANYWAY AS WE ARE LOOKING TO RUN IT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE **The National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) is Australia’s leading high-performance computing, data, storage, and cloud computing organisation, providing expert services to benefit all domains of science, government and industry.Python is one of the most used programming languages worldwide with applications in almost every data-oriented application domain. The Python data science ecosystem is a rich platform for scaling up workflows, enhancing scientific research and improving insight. However, Python can be performance limited when large datasets or challenging computations are required. Parallel computing and efficient data handling can overcome this barrier, enhancing research throughput. This workshop will demonstrate cutting edge techniques to work with big data and process data in parallel using Python and is suitable for all participants who want to enhance their data science capabilities. On 10 August 2022, a full day Parallel Python training course will be held in person on The Australian National University (ANU) campus. The NCI Training Team’s Hugo MacDermott-Opeskin will outline strategies for working with large datasets and computational problems using Python. The course will begin with a NumPy refresher followed by big data handling with xarray and parallel computing with Dask. Training will take place on Australia’s most powerful research supercomputer, NCI’s Gadi, where we will demonstrate how to extract the maximum from your Python workflows to take your data science to the next level. All current and future NCI users are encouraged to attend.[WHAT YOU NEED]Attendees are expected to bring their own laptops with WiFi connectivity.[PROGRAM OVERVIEW]The training course will run from 9.30am–4.30pm with interval breaks. A number of places to eat and cafes can be found on the ANU campus. Please arrive at the training venue 15 minutes prior to the start time.
