About this event

  • 6 hours

During this popular workshop Annie will teach you the skills to paint dappled light falling on flowers and foliage. Layers of varied mark making in acrylic paint and colour build up to capture joyful expanses of sunlit glades and cool shady bowers. Use of colour and spontaneous brush strokes are the signature techniques recognised as being Impressionism and Annie will demonstrate how this style allows the viewer's perception to do much of the colour mixing, rather than meticulously painting every detail.

The workshop is suitable for all levels. No experience is necessary. (Children 12 and over allowed with an accompanying adult).

Class maximum - 8 students

Workshop fee includes:

Guided instruction from Annie who will help you master this medium, technique and subject matter.

Use of all materials provided including easel, table, chair, drawing materials, prepared canvas, paints, brushes, palettes, water containers, rags and apron.

Delicious morning tea. (BYO lunch).

Glass of wine or bubbles and nibbles afterwards to celebrate your creation.

The Impressionist masterpiece you create is yours to take home!

What to bring

Water bottle.

Lunch.

Bring your own reference photos if you like (or use those that Annie will provide).

What to wear

An apron is provided but wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Although acrylic paints are water based, some pigments can be difficult to remove.

Historic Settlers Cottage is located at 180 Pearson Street, Churchlands, is owned by the National Trust and currently used as Art Studios. The setting is idyllic, nestled close to the Herdsman Lake, surrounded by trees and wildlife. The venue for our workshops is in the adjacent Shelter area (outdoor undercover with weather protection) and on the shady verandahs of the cottage.
