This registration is for the Overland Track during winter 2024. (1 June - 30 September 2024).
Overland track bookings for summer (1 October 2024 - 31 May 2025) will become available on the PWS website in early July 2024.
Important Safety Information:
Weather: The weather in Tasmania’s remote National Parks can be notoriously unpredictable and at times, dangerous. Ensure that you understand the weather forecast for the duration of your walk and observe sunrise and sunset times.
Gear: You need to be self-sufficient and ensure that you are carrying the clothing and equipment needed to protect you from strong winds, heavy rain, snow and blizzards. What to Pack.
Preparedness: Individuals are responsible for their own safety. You must ensure that you are experienced in remote bush walking, have a high level of fitness and are capable of undertaking such a walk. Daylight hours are short, track and facilities maintenance is minimal, including no guarantee of heating at hut nodes. Plan your Trip.
Safety: Please read our Safety in Parks information and check for Alerts in the area before you go. In Tasmania, Search and Rescue operations are managed by Tasmania Police – phone 000. Noting that there may not be cellular service in this area. Carrying a Personal Locator beacon (PLB) is recommended.
Leave No Trace: Please respect the natural and cultural values that make this Track part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area: Leave No Trace.
P arks Pass: A valid national parks pass is required. This can be purchased in advance online: Purchase Parks Pass Online.
Cradle Mountain Shuttle Bus: You will need to buy a shuttle ticket from the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre if departing from Cradle Mountain and using the shuttle service.
Registration: By registering your walk, you are helping the Parks and Wildlife Service to reduce long-term damage to fragile, remote bushwalking environments by limiting daily departures.
Registrations are free. Maximum departures are 34 people daily. You only need to register for your day of departure.
You can walk north to south or south to north. If planning to walk south to north (Lake St Clair to Cradle Mt) You must plan to be off the track by the 1st October 2024. For most walkers this means departing no later than the 26th September 2024.
If your plans change and you are no longer going, please cancel your registration. This allows others to register for this walk. You will find instructions on how to cancel your registration in your confirmation email.
