RMIT Social Work warmly invite you to the annual Social Work Outrage! Lecture: Co-building a new eco social world: Leaving no one behind.

About this event

This is a live and streamed event. Register for the streamed event here.

We are at a crossroads. Humanity cannot continue down the same path as we collectively face the ever-growing crisis of inequality, climate change and environmental destruction. The Covid-19 pandemic has laid bare entrenched inequalities at social, health and economic levels with billions of people not having adequate healthcare or social protections systems.

These crises require transformative action towards a new world free of discrimination and oppression and based on a new eco-social contract, driven by collaboration, sustainability, and recognition of the interconnectedness of all life in our ecosystem. These themes reflect World Social Work Day 2022 and the People´s Summit https://newecosocialworld.com/ 29th June to the 2nd July.

The Outrage! 2022 lecture will be delivered by Tarneen Onus Williams:

Tarneen is s a proud Gunditjmara, Bindal, Yorta Yorta and Torres Strait Islander person living on the unceded land of the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung peoples. Tarneen is a community organiser for Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance working on Invasion Day, Black Deaths in Custody Justice for Elijah and Stop the forced closures of Aboriginal Communities in WA. They are a filmmaker and writer and have been published in IndigenousX, The Saturday Paper, NITV and RightNow. Tarneen’s film “Young mob questioning treaty” has been screened internationally since premiering in July 2019. Tarneen's day job is working with Aboriginal women who’ve been incarcerated and providing them with case management support and transitional housing.

Book launch

Outrage! will also launch the second edition of the RMIT Partnerships book, Partnerships with the Community: Social Work Field Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This is a culmination of a project undertaken between RMIT Social Work Field Education and their placement industry partners.

Light refreshments will follow.

Please note: All attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exemption.
