Overview

The possum skin workshop for the creation of 2 traditional wearable cloaks as a gift to Gellung Warl & Candidate Info session.

This special workshop aims to create a possum skin cloak to celebrate Treaty! All First Peoples artists, Elders and cultural knowledge holders are welcome.

The project will bring together possum skins with designs and motifs from communities across Victoria. These will be used to make two Treaty Cloaks for ceremonial use by Gellung Warl, the First Peoples’ representative body established by the Treaty.

The workshop will teach skills in cloak creation. Participants will develop designs, cut and burn skins and use all necessary equipment for drawing, burning and etching.

A Candidate Info session will also be run by the South East engagement Team.

Food will be provided. Registrations are free but essential.

Please note: This event is for First Peoples artists, Elders and cultural knowledge holders in the South East region. This workshop is not aimed at children. We welcome non-Indigenous carers and support workers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people attending this event.
