About this event:

This research training is:

  • Engaging, hands-on, and interactive
  • Designed to build researchers knowledge, skills and confidence to deepen your understanding of qualitative research and successfully conduct thematic analysis
  • Based on first hand qualitative research and education experience and has been delivered extensively in Australia and internationally
  • Interdisciplinary and suitable for both experienced researchers and those new to qualitative research

Real world and practical:

  • This training draws on real-world examples from qualitative research projects, using thematic analysis, and other qualitative methodologies that the facilitator has undertaken; as well as practical examples to work through to help you conduct your own rigorous research.
  • Participants each receive a resource pack full of activities we work through during the training.

Day 1 enables participants to:

  • Have a strong understanding of the core aspects of qualitative research
  • Explore and differentiate between essentialist, contextualist, and constructionist approaches to thematic analysis
  • Be guided through each individual stage of thematic analysis via expertly crafted and supported activities
  • Gain the skills and confidence to successfully complete a research project using thematic analysis

Day 2 enables participants to:

  • Apply thematic analysis across essentialist, contextualist, and constructionist theoretical approaches
  • Explore the importance of subjectivity and reflexivity in qualitative research
  • Have a strong grounding in the distinctions between the three schools of thematic analysis (reflexive, codebook and coding reliability)
  • Explore the relationship between thematic analysis and other qualitative approaches (e.g., discourse analysis, grounded theory interpretative phenomenological analysis)
  • Use thematic analysis with a range of data types (e.g. images, webpages)

Participants receive:

  • Pre-training material: Preparatory content, received two weeks before training
  • Twelve hours of interactive, face-toface training over two days
  • Certificate of Completion
  • Option available to book in for one-on-one, post Masterclass support
