BLACKTOWN Online Antenatal Breastfeeding Education for women with diabetes in pregnancy ONLY.

If you are a low-risk pregnant woman, please book into the General Breastfeeding Education Online Classes.

** You should only book ONE Breastfeeding education class of any kind. Any duplicate bookings will be cancelled without notice **

YOU MUST BE BIRTHING YOUR BABY AT BLACKTOWN HOSPITAL TO ATTEND.

THESE SESSIONS ARE MEDICARE COVERED. IF YOU ARE NOT COVERED BY MEDICARE, YOU WILL NEED TO PAY THE FEES INVOLVED.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE HOSPITAL FOR THIS SESSION, THESE CLASSES ARE ONLINE ONLY.

This 1-hour interactive online breastfeeding antenatal session will be via Microsoft Teams on Tuesday 11AM-12PM.

We will send you a link 1-day prior, on the day and again 1-hour prior to the session. Please click the link on your computer or tablet device, then press join. The email will also contain step-by-step instructions on how to do this if you have any trouble logging in.

The Infant Feeding Clinical Midwifery Consultant, will provide information around breastfeeding – how to breastfeed, what is normal, baby behaviour and where to get help once you are at home. Partners are encouraged to attend. One ticket per couple.

- Benefits of breastfeeding for your baby

- How diabetes impacts feeding

- How diabetes affects your baby after birth

- How to express milk and breastfeed

- Expressing milk from 36 weeks antenatally

- Building up your milk supply

- Maintaining your baby's sugar levels after birth

Do I ask my partner/support to join the online class with me?

Partners and support persons are encouraged to attend. If the partner/support person is online in Microsoft Teams, please use the same name as the mother so we can identify the participants.

The classes are faciliitated by midwives and accredited childbirth educators. The breastfeeding classes are facilitated by our Lactation Consultant.
