[OB. INTER. SUB] jective
Reflecting the shifting relationship between objective, subjective, and intersubjective experiences within the studio
[OB. INTER. SUB]jective is a collaborative contemporary dance work developed through The Pink Door Project, bringing together nine dancers aged 11-21 directed by student investigator and dance maker Madison.
[OB. INTER. SUB]jective, reflects the shifting relationship between objective, subjective, and intersubjective experiences within the studio. During the work Individual ideas, collaborative discoveries, structured tasks, and spontaneous responses continuously overlap, creating the choreography that moves between personal expression and collective understanding.
Created across a series of rehearsals exploring improvisation, composition, and collaborative dance-making, the work investigates how dancers make choices, respond to one another, and contribute to the shared creative process. Throughout the development of the project, dancers were invited to participate as active creators; generating movement, making artistic decisions, and influencing the direction of the choreography.
Audiences will encounter traces of the methods used to create the work, including improvisation, scores, prompts, task-based movement generation, and collaborative composition. Some sections feature fixed choreography, while others allow dancers to make decisions in real time, meaning elements of the performance change and evolve from moment to moment.
This work features Madison's signature choreographic intentions; beginning with a solo improvisation performed within a set of choreographic parameters and unfolds through an ebb and flow of choreography made by the dancers, Madison and collaboratively between them. Moments emerge, dissolve, reform, and transform as dancers negotiate relationships, space, timing, and movement.
[OB. INTER. SUB]jective celebrates collaboration and creative agency, inviting audiences to witness not only a finished performance, but also the traces of the dance-making processes that brought it into being.
