Reducing the Risk around Medications

Nurses and Midwives will be able to formulate understanding of medications in practice and what as individuals we can do to increase safety of the people in our care and themselves. The Association will explore the various causes of medication errors and provide you with the understanding and abilities to help prevent medication errors and identify ways of mitigating risk.

This session will assist you to:

  • Develop an understanding of your Professional obligations and scope of practice
  • Understand processes of the medication cycle and the stages that errors can occur and medication principles
  • Illustrate understanding of high-risk medication for yourself and people in your care
  • Recognise the importance of following policy and processes to maintain safety within the health care environment

WHS consultation and Risk Management

Evidence reflects that the best work health and safety environment and outcomes for nurses and midwives occurs when there is good work health and safety consultation in the workplace and effective management of identified workplace risks.

This session will assist you to:

  • Identify when work health and safety consultation must occur in your workplace
  • Understand the various mechanisms available for nurses and midwives for workplace health and safety consultation
  • Know what constitutes a workplace hazard
  • Recognise how management of risks must be actioned with the highest levels of control
