Northern Business Modernisation Leaders
Negotiation for Business Leaders
If you’re interested in new knowledge and energy to support business growth and modernisation, plus some inspiration and new connections, this is an opportunity to join a small group of like-minded, non-competing, business leaders doing the same.
Our discussion this month will centre around negotiation skills for business leaders.
Business leaders regularly find themselves in situations where they need to put their negotiating hat on. Whether it be in their relationship with business partners, suppliers, employees, clients or perhaps someone looking to buy their business, success in negotiation requires an understanding of what it means to be part of one, how approach, style and behaviours influence outcomes and how being prepared can make the whole process more palatable and mutually successful.
Fisher and Ury define skilled negotiating as 'back and forth communication where some interests are shared and some are opposed.'. The purpose of negotiating is to see if you can achieve your interests through an agreement. An interest is why you want something, not what you want. When negotiators start working from the standpoint of interests, they can begin to work with the other side to explore alternative solutions.
We'll be joined by professional business negotiation advisor Elise Magrow. Elise helps leaders develop expertise in negotiation that delivers better business outcomes and helps clients work through complex negotiations and disputes, saving them time, money and stress.
Elise is an experienced litigator and mediator who over the past 16 years has focused on alternative dispute resolution techniques to assist clients and disputing parties avoid lengthy and expensive court proceedings. She has successfully assisted both her own clients and disputing parties resolve complex disputes using the combination of her litigation and commercial experience together with her pragmatic approach to the resolution of disputes.
Elise is an experienced commercial lawyer and accredited award winning mediator with vast litigation experience. She has helped entrepreneurs and small to medium businesses in negotiating significant deals. As the founder of Confidentially Speaking, she brings her commercial experiences together with a pragmatic approach to assist SME's in negotiation preparation and the resolution of disputes.
