About this event

  • 4 hours 30 minutes

Following TEN very successful Australian Red Cross "Working Dog Training School" events with over 120 participants and over 300 spectators, Australian Red Cross is proud to sponsor the launch of the North East Working Dog Social Group where everybody is welcome to come along!

We set-out to create a complelling reason, every quarter, for those interested in working dogs to come spend the day with other like minded people in a beatiful part of North East Victoria. We wanted to create oppoertunites for individuals to connect, promote positivity and collaboration and encourage the development of individual participants and their working dogs.

We welcome everybody - those with new working dogs, those with old working dogs, those with six working dogs and those with no working dogs! Young or old, complete newbie to champion dog trainer!

At each event we encourage those who might be new to the arena to connect with others in attendance, cliche but theres no such thing as a silly question, theres no judgement for putting your hand up with something you might be stuggling with in the arena! Each event has a mixture newbies, particiaptns with some experience and some more experienced dog handlers/trainers that happily mentor, encourage and answer questions.

Planned sessions include:

Sunday, 12 November 2023 (11am to 3pm) at Chiltern
Sunday, 11 February 2024 (11am to 3pm) at Talgarno
Sunday, 12 May 2024 (10:30am to 3pm) at Towong
Sunday, 11 August 2023 (11am to 3pm) at TBA (Anyone interested in hosting?)

Lunch is provided by Australian Red Cross.

Frequently asked questions

As a SPECTATOR, what do I need to bring?

We always suggest you bring a hat, your own chair and your own refillable water bottle. Given the time of year, perhaps a pair of gum boots might be advisable!

As a PARTICIPANT (with a working dog), what do I need to bring?

In addition to the items listed above, you might find it beneficial to have a short and long lead, and if you'd like to familiarise your dog with your own rake (see pics above) you're welcome to bring your own leaf rake - we use these https://www.bunnings.com.au/44cm-plastic-leaf-rake_p3350684

Do you have any tips you can give me about working dog school etiquette?

The one expectation is to be considerate of others - being considerate of the kind person that offered their property on the day by tidying up after your dog! Unsettled dogs can be disruptive to others, if this is your dog, be considerate by excusing yourself to pacify/relocate to minimise impact.
