Neurodiverse Families Connect (Katoomba)
Take a break from your caring role, participate in a valuable experience and connect with people who understand.
Neurodiverse Families Connect is a free 8-session In-Person Peer Support program for parents/carers and their neurodivergent children. These sessions are delivered in collaboration with Katoomba Neurodiversity Hub and facilitated by peers and mentors with lived experience of both neurodivergence and caring.
The program is designed as an opportunity for you and your homeschooled or "School Can't" child/children to meet other parents and carers, make new connections and learn about a strength-based approach to caring for, or with, Autism, ADHD and other developmental, learning and sensory differences. Children who attend will be supported separately in their choice of "Not School" activities by the neurodivergent mentors who run the children's programs at the Hub.
The program enables families to connect with peers in a supportive neuro-friendly environment, build positive neurodivergent identity, and learn how to support well-being and harmony at home. Any topics or activities will be determined by you and the other people in your group.
Topics could include;
- common difficulties within neurodiverse families
- strategies and resources recommended by those with lived-experience of neurodivergence
- understanding differences in neurodivergent brains and behaviour
- nervous system regulation strategies
- self-care for neurodivergent people and their carers
- advocating at school
Sessions will be held weekly on Thursdays at 10am - 12pm from 12th February to 2nd April, 2026. Carers are encouraged to attend all sessions to get the most out of the experience. Further groups may be available, so please express interest if these times do not suit you.
Light refreshements will be provided. Attendees are also welcome to BYO lunch.
