Event description

Description

Suitable for: Beginners and Intermediate Photographers

Instructors: Graeme Barrett & Seng Mah

If you've always wanted to understand how to use ND (Neutral Density) filters and shoot long exposures, then come and join us for this exciting mini-workshop. We'll demystify the ND numbers for you, so that you can learn how to use these filters without getting too stuck on the formulas and calculations. We will also show you some great apps that you can install on your smartphone that can help you work out your long exposures when you use the filters.

We'll start off by looking at regular exposures -- those taken without fillters, before we look at the effect filters have on your exposures and on creating long exposure blur in your pictures. We'll show you how to use dense filters such as the ND1000 to obtain long exposures in daylight. As the sun begins to set and the light changes, we'll use lighter filters to obtain different types of long exposures.

We'll shoot into twilight, after the sun has set, so that you can try out longer exposures in Bulb mode.

Come and learn how to get creative with long exposures!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • A DSLR or interchangeable lens camera, with spare battery (long exposures chew up battery life).
  • ND (Neutral Density) filters for your lens. We suggest you use at least two filters -- an ND1000 and an ND32.
  • A stable tripod.
  • A cable release with a switch/button that allows you to lock the shutter.
  • Weather appropriate clothing and insect repellant.

Places in this mini-workshop are limited to 15 photographers, so don't miss out!
