About this event

What are the Focus Groups?

A number of 1-hour Focus Group sessions will be held online through August and September as part of the consultation processes for the National Languages Plan and Strategy Project.

Why should you be involved in the Focus Groups?

The Focus Groups will provide opportunities for teachers and other stakeholders to have input to the development of the National Languages Plan and Strategy.

Participants will be able to provide feedback on the draft goals to be included in the Plan and Strategy for Languages Education in Australia.

Who can participate?

Teachers of all languages and any stakeholders interested in Languages Education in Australia can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to participate in a Focus Group.

How can you participate?

Register your Expression of Interest (EOI) via Eventbrite.

All times listed are AEST. Select the Focus Group session that reflects your context:

4 August 4pm: Language teacher in Queensland

4 August 6pm: Language teacher in Victoria

9 August 4pm: Teacher of a community language

9 August 6pm: Language teacher in New South Wales

17 August 4pm: Language teacher in Tasmania

17 August 6pm: Language teacher in Western Australia

25 August 4pm: Auslan teacher (interpreters will be present)

25 August 6pm: Teacher of a community language

2 September 6pm: Language teacher in Western Australia

6 September 4pm: Language teacher in Victoria

6 September 6pm: Language teacher in Queensland

14 September 4pm: Language teacher in New South Wales

14 September 6pm: Teachers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages

22 September 4pm: Language teacher in South Australia

22 September 6pm: Language teacher in Northern Territory

Each group will have a maximum of 30 participants, with a balance of languages, locations, sectors and schooling stages.

This project is being managed by the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers Associations (AFMLTA) for the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
