NAIDOC WEEK: TASTES AND TALES - CAMPFIRE AND CONNECTION
Event Information
Description
Two lovers of our landscapes join together around the campfire to share tales and tastes of our wonderful edible native plants (and animals). Their connection to country and love of the Darwin bush comes from two very different journeys and perspectives that merge together to inspire others to see the value in these through food.
Come share stories and fresh bush foods at this special event celebrating NAIDOC week at ABT.
Leslie Gordon is a Larrakia elder who was born and raised in Darwin, growing up hunting with her family on country and learning about bushtucker from her older sisters. This knowledge is a strong part of her identity and she is happy to share her cultural knowledge with the wider Darwin Community and inspire younger indigenous people to connect through doing so.
Emma Lupin grew up in Britain, leaving at 18 and spent much of her adult years sailing on traditional boats in the Tropics before landing on the shores of Darwin 10 years ago; falling in love with these landscapes and their edible plants. She is fascinated by plants and people and place and how they intertwine. For many years Emma has been an environmental advocate and inspired people to connect to local foods through community
Leslie and Emma first met many years ago when working in Kitchen Garden programs in schools and have been involved in storytelling and food events together, they will come together to share their very different journeys to the love of the land and food, sharing stories and some tastes of native edibles.
