"My Italian Connections" series - TWO YOUNG ARTISTS IN ROME

Istituto Italiano di Cultura SydneySydney, NSW
Thursday, Mar 12 from 6 pm to 8 pm
Overview

A conversation with artists Corey Black and Harry de Vries

For the My Italian Connections series, the Italian Cultural Institute Sydney, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Sydney and the National Art School, is pleased to present a conversation with artists Corey Black and Harry de Vries, both recipients of the prestigious residency at the British School at Rome.

This event offers an opportunity to explore the lasting impact of Italy on Australian contemporary practice. Through an engaging dialogue, Black and de Vries will reflect on how immersion in Rome’s layered cultural and historical landscape has shaped their research, expanded their methodologies, and contributed to their artistic development.

Corey Black’s practice examines industrial and post-industrial processes, working collaboratively with materials, craftspeople, and machines to generate new formal possibilities while critically engaging with contemporary systems of production, consumption, and technology. His work has been presented nationally and internationally, and he is preparing for a forthcoming residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.

Harry de Vries creates site-specific installations that investigate global flows of people, materials, and power. His practice operates across research, exhibition-making, and institutional engagement. He has undertaken international residencies, lectures at UNSW Art & Design, and works with Firstdraft, one of Australia’s leading contemporary art organisations.

Refreshments will be offered to all participants.
