Mami Watta Collections is an Indigenous beading brand and social enterprise based on Gagidal and Darkinjung lands, running for over eight years. It partners with Embera Chami artisans from Colombia to create unique hand-beaded jewelry.
Founded by Oroana, a Colombian-Australian artist, the brand reflects her cultural heritage and artistic vision.
The Oro Collection features intricate beadwork in gold, black, and earth tones, and includes golden Muisca charms. These designs are inspired by Oroana’s connection to gold, which she sees as a symbol of inner light and spiritual essence.
Gold holds deep significance for Oroana’s Muisca ancestors, who used it in spiritual, cultural, and social practices. These traditions were disrupted and suppressed following Spanish colonisation. Her work honours their memory and supports the living traditions of the Muisca people today.
Each piece is created using traditional Embera Chami patterns. The collection is a tribute to Oroana's roots and a celebration of Indigenous voices in Colombia.
It invites wearers on a journey through cultures that have long embraced gold as a symbol of beauty, strength, and spiritual power.
