Join us for an on-farm morning turning EID data into better decisions on feed, markets, welfare and labour.
MUSTER Your Data: Practical eID, NLIS and Livestock Data
Join us for a hands-on morning on making eID data work for your business.
Whether you're scanning tags for compliance or already recording weights and other data, this workshop will show you how to get the most out of the gear you already have. If you're thinking about upgrading, it will also help you work out what might suit your operation best.
The morning will be held on a local farm at Marbarrup, with presentations followed by practical demonstrations in the yards.
What to expect
- eID and NLIS essentials: current requirements for sheep and goat identification, movements and traceability, and how eID supports biosecurity and disease response.
- Using your eID data: what information you can collect and how it can support better decision making, including tracking performance and making classing decisions.
- Working with your data: a practical walk-through of getting data from different sources into one spreadsheet, ready to use at classing time. No advanced Excel skills needed.
- In the yards: demonstrations with sheep using a range of setups, from a basic scanning wand through to scales, readers and an auto drafter. You'll see how data can be displayed and used at the crush, and how basic NLIS tasks are done.
- Producer and industry perspectives: hear from a local producer and from WAFarmers about putting eID into practice in commercial systems, including what has worked and what hasn't.
- Time to talk: bring your questions, your current setup and any problems you've had, and talk them through with the presenters and other producers.
- Thinking about updating: the crew from Kojonup Ag will also be there with some gear and available to answer any questions you might have.
Who should come
Sheep producers at any stage of eID, whether you're just meeting the tagging requirements, collecting some data but not sure what to do with it, or already well set up and looking to do more. Farm staff and family members who handle sheep or records are welcome too.
Presenters
- Maeve O'Brien, Mallawillup Livestock Services
- Ben Vines, Animal Biosecurity and Welfare - DPIRD
- Steve McGuire, President - WAFarmers
