We hope to offer a choice of activities ie. half group will do abseil and canoe and the other half will do caving and canoe, however we reserve the right to have all participants undertake the same activity depending on numbers. Cost per person $30 (age 12 – 17 years only)

You will be emailed a permission / waiver form for the activity which must be returned 5 business days before the activity or you will not be able to attend the activity.

Cost includes

• transport from Myrtleford, Porepunkah and Bright

• activities, qualified guides and safety equipment

• Lunch

You will need to bring:

• Morning tea & drinking water

• Change of clothes for caving and canoeing

• Sturdy shoes (old runners) which will get wet

• Change of dry clothes and towel

We reserve the right to cancel bookings and issue a refund for people who register from outside of the Alpine Shire.

UNDERGROUND RIVER CAVING

The underground river cave at Mt Buffalo is a horizontal boulder infill type cave, some 350 metres long and has a number of exits. There is an active steam in the cave and when water levels are moderate, there are numerous rapids and waterfalls to challenge the caving team. This cave is wet and cold with tight squeezes and slippery rocks. It is a horizontal cave so no roped work is needed for access and it is all crawling and squeezing and teamwork.

You will need:

Thermal underwear and or warm synthetic clothes such as an old track suit or fleece clothing (Long Trousers and Long Sleeves) or a wetsuit if you have one as the underground river can be very cold, even during summer.

Sturdy runners or boots (Sports sandals are not acceptable)

Medication as required (such as an asthma puffer)

A full change of shoes and clothing and a towel for when you finish the cave as we will get very wet!

A plastic bag for wet and dirty clothing at the end of the Adventure!

Cameras are not recommended if they are not waterproof.

ABSEILING

We first have a practice abseil or two from the 25 metre beginners abseil site near the stone hut in the visitors car park. This abseil has some interesting challenges but is very achievable. We then move on to our 35 metre beginners abseil site (Echo Point lookout). This site has a great view of the gorge and is one of the better abseils on Mt Buffalo.

Both abseil sites are close to the Mt Buffalo Gorge Visitors car park and also the toilets and other facilities.

Suitability

This adventure is suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Just bring your sense of Adventure!

CANOEING ON LAKE CATANI

Canoeing on Lake Catani on the plateau of Mt Buffalo is a fun activity. There is an opportunity to try stand-up paddleboards for those after more of a challenge. The Lake and its beautiful scenic location gives a sense of peace and tranquility while providing a fun and adventurous outdoor activity and relief from the summer heat for everyone.

All Activities are conducted By Adventure Guides Australia to the Victorian Adventure Activity Standards (AAS) as required by DPI / Parks Victoria. See www.orc.org.au to view these standards.

All safety equipment and qualified guides provided by Adventure Guides Australia.
