Moon Phases Prāṇāyāma - The sacred breath of Soma
Overview
Since ancient times, great yogic traditions such as Pātañjali’s Yoga Darśana, the Hatha Yoga Pradīpikā, and the tantric teachings of Kashmir Shaivism have recognised the profound influence of the moon on our body, mind, and emotions. Masters like Swami Kuvalayananda, Sri Krishnamacharya, and B.K.S. Iyengar carried these teachings into modern times, reminding us that prāṇāyāma is not simply breath control, but the art of tuning to cosmic rhythm.
🌙 The Moon is the mirror of water. Just as the tides rise and fall with lunar pull, our inner waters (emotions, circulation, subtle fluids) respond to the phases of the moon in the same way. When we harmonise breath with lunar energy, we learn to navigate emotions with grace, to balance inner tides, and to carry this awareness into daily life.
This is a guided session prepared with so much love, a journey into lunar awareness, and an initiation into recognising the moon within you. The practices you receive here become a living compass for the days ahead, guiding resilience throughout each phase. Awaken the flow of Soma, the nectar of the moon described in Ayurveda and the Vedas, the rejuvenating essence that flows when breath, awareness, and cosmic rhythm are aligned.
We will explore phase-specific prāṇāyāmas Such as Amāvasyā (inward, grounding breaths for renewal and intention In New Moon). Śukla Pakṣa (expansive practices to cultivate vitality, clarity, and momentum In Waxing Moon). Pūrṇimā (cooling, balancing techniques to integrate peak lunar energy into stillness During Full Moon). And Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa (cleansing exhalations to support surrender, letting go, and inner release When Waning Moon arrives).
