Description

Risk Management in the 21st Century (Commemorating Professor Colin O’Hare)

THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED

On 1 August, 2018, our colleague Professor Colin O’Hare, the scheduled presenter of this masterclass, passed away following an accident involving a car and his bicycle.

A popular teacher and deeply respected researcher in the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, Professor O’Hare brought a great deal of industry experience and academic rigour to all his work.

Monash Business School will commemorate Professor O’Hare’s memory in this special masterclass, presented by Professor Edward Buckingham, Monash Business School’s Director of Engagement.

Professor Buckingham teaches strategy in Monash Business School’s MBA and Executive MBA (EMBA) programs.

“Colin will be remembered for his excellent teaching and research contributions. He was excited about sharing his ideas with you at this masterclass.

“While Colin's expertise and knowledge of actuarial science cannot be replaced, it’s my great honour to present some of the ideas that I know Colin was planning to discuss. Please join me.”

Over time risk management has evolved, with the aid of actuarial science and advances in computing power, to become a central feature of strategic thinking. This transformation is accelerating under the disruptive influence of artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation.

So how will risk managers prepare for what’s next?

Monash Business School invites you to a special masterclass, ‘Risk Management in the 21st Century’ on Wednesday, August 22, at Monash Law Chambers, 555 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

Professor Edward Buckingham will explore the changing face of risk management, as well as the issues and opportunities AI and automation brings.

Freed from more menial tasks, automation will give us time to focus on higher level opportunities – but can this add a complacency that exposes our organisations to new risk?

What about the loss of intuition, experience, the development of judgement? What of cyber security?

Whatever the future, the skill set needed by risk managers will be transformed.

Registration and networking will begin at 5.45pm with light refreshments upon arrival. After the Masterclass join us also for networking with alumni, industry representatives and friends.
