Overview

An invitation this Valentine’s Day to experience art, heart and scent through the love stories that shaped modernism.

Be guided by a Duldig Studio Art Historian and Artist & Master Herbal Infuser, Alice Corless, to build your own bespoke oil perfume that captures the love lives and revolutionary creativity of modernist artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Melbourne’s very own Karl Duldig and Slawa Horowitz, and Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Jean Arp.

The experience:

-An introduction to the love lives and creative masterpieces of modernist power couples, delivered by Duldig Studio Art Historian Valentina Bydanova. This introduction will include the chance to view unique artefacts from the Duldig Studio collection that uncover the love story between artists Karl and Slawa Duldig.

-An immersive oil-based perfume making session guided by Alice Corless, where you will get a chance to build an unforgettable scent inspired by places, ideas and relationships.

-Take home an inspiring scent that you can share with loved ones.

-Tickets include a 1.5 hour viewing of the Duldig Studio post the workshop.

ARTIST PROFILES: Meet the modernist power couples

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: A tumultuous and passionate couple who shaped Mexican Modernism by bringing together folk art, surrealism and cubism. Known as ‘the beauty and the beast’ for their respective looks, both artists dedicated their lives to political activism for their country.

Melbourne’s very own Karl Duldig and Slawa Horowitz: A tender, resourceful and collaborative couple who escaped the horrors of WWII Europe, and planted the seed of modernist sculpture in Victoria, Australia.

Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Jean Arp: Among the pioneers of Dadaism, this highly collaborative couple transcended artistic boundaries across sculpture, painting, poetry and dance. Co-creating several artworks, it is often difficult to tell where one artist’s influence begins and the other’s ends.

Please note: In the event of event cancellation, ticket purchases will be refunded within up to three business days.
