Mini Make Day: beyond Earth

Mini Make Day: beyond Earth is your place to learn and share ideas on the problems and solutions for our reach to the stars. Showcasing an array of tinkerers, makers, costume designers, scientists, academics, science fiction nerds, engineers and space fanatics, activities are available for the whole family.

For all ages (children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parental guardian or carer)

Workshops:

Super Box Friends: In Space by Cake Industries (Dean Petersen & Jesse Stevens)
Workshop 1: 12:00pm to 1:30pm (15pax)
Workshop 2: 2:00pm to 3:30pm (15pax)
Cost: FREE to register ticket
Location: lv 2 Terrace, Library at the Dock
Ages: 6-12 years of age only, parental guardians don’t need to register a ticket for themselves, only their dependents.
Make friends with a cardboard box, give your box friend real robotic parts, a personality, and then set them loose in outer space! Kids will enjoy the fun of bringing cardboard to life with a space theme, and customising them to become new little friends in a twist on a classic activity. www.cake.net.au

mBot as autonomous vehicle on a planet’s surface by Pakronics
Workshop 3: 12:30pm to 2:00pm (6pax)

Ages: 10 years and over
Meet the mBot, an easy to use programmable robot that you can turn into an autonomous vehicle! This workshop will teach you how to program an mbot for movement, sensing its surroundings, following fixed paths, avoiding obstacles and sounding an alarm. This is a great first step in understanding how to create your own interplanetary rover. https://www.pakronics.com.au/

Sensing and data accumulation using Arduino in SPACE by Pakronics
Workshop 4: 2:30pm to 4:00pm (6pax)
Cost: FREE to register ticket

Ages: 10 years and over
Meet the mBot, an easy to use programmable robot that you can use to monitor weather and atmosphere. This workshop will teach you how to program the mbot to sense humidity and temperature, as well as provide output displays on what it is sensing. https://www.pakronics.com.au/

Constructing a Cubesat by Michael Norris, Melbourne Space Program Managing Director

The Melbourne Space Program comprises of a diverse group of passionate and ambitious individuals united in their work to strengthen the aerospace industry and space exploration. This talk will focus on how the Melbourne Space Program was started, and the challenges they have faced making a cubesat.

With a mission to teach 1 million women to get into tech and launch their own startups by 2025, Girl Geek Academy provides a community for lifelong learning, following the whole journey of women in tech from age five to infinity. Girl Geek Academy is Australia's first organisation solely dedicated to boosting the number of women technology founders in Australia.

SheMakes pop-up stall:
Learn about 3D design and making your printable stuff, engage with interactive displays and art, hear from our makers and play with the 3D printers we have on site. We will also have some samples on 3D printed jewellery including those printing in metals, you can then use your models to order through various 3rd parties that can print your designs in metals like gold and silver.

CCHS is a community workshop run by an enthusiastic group of like-minded members, located in Hawthorn, Victoria. Visitors and new members of all skill levels are very welcome. Melbourne Space Program
The Melbourne Space Program comprises of a diverse group of passionate and ambitious individuals united in their work to strengthen the aerospace industry and space exploration, with a focus on education and innovation, within Australia.
The Melbourne Space Program from the University of Melbourne will be showcasing models of its inaugural satellite and presenting a few interactive activities to engage public understanding of Australian space history and space-related policy. The team will have a slideshow of photos of their work, a timeline outlining the design stages and when the satellite is set to be launched.
