Event description
This workshop aims to explore translational gaps between basic and clinical researchers and clinicians in musculoskletal pain.

About this Event

“Mine the Gap”, will be hosted by the Australian Osteoarthritis Summit and NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence and Program grants (1091302 and 1079078 respectively). The workshop is scheduled to take place over the 14th and 15th of October online through the Zoom Conference App.

This workshop aims to:

i) explore existing translation gaps between basic and clinical researchers and clinicians, and

ii) identify strategies to overcome these gaps through the recognition of professional similarities and opportunities, while understanding cultural (research and clinical) differences.

The workshop will be delivered in thematic sessions with presentations by leaders covering basic science, clinical science, clinician and consumer perspectives. During these interactive sessions, basic scientists, clinical researchers clinicians and consumers will work together to facilitate breaking down any communication barriers.

Themes will include:

• Preclinical models/phenotypes with the counterpoint being human disease/phenotypes with consideration of the clinical/clinician interface

• Measurement of pain in preclinical models versus patient-reported outcome measures/measures of pain in humans.

• Biological measurements (animal or human) to clinical application

• Laboratory biomechanics (animal or human) to clinical application of biomechanics

• Musculoskeletal imaging in animals versus humans versus clinical
