Mindful Maki: More Than a Cooking Class

Mindful Maki: More Than a Cooking Class

INTO-ARTS Studio + GalleryWest Ryde, NSW
Sunday, Feb 22 from 4 pm to 7 pm AEDT
Overview

A guided chirashi sushi ritual focused on slowing down, cooking together, and connecting over food. More than a cooking class.

This is not a typical cooking class.

Mindful Maki is a guided food experience designed to slow things down and create space for connection. Using simple sushi preparation as the medium, you’ll cook, eat, and share time together in a way that feels intentional, grounded, and human.

Many people come to Mindful Maki because they’re looking for something different. Not a performance. Not a rushed activity. Just a reason to come together over food and be present with each other.

What makes this different?

Mindful Maki is less about learning techniques and more about how it feels to cook and eat together.

You’ll be gently guided through the process, with plenty of space to move at your own pace. There’s no pressure to “do it right”, no expectation to perform, and no need to know anything about mindfulness or sushi beforehand.

Food becomes the anchor. Connection is what unfolds.

What you’ll experience

  • A calm, welcoming environment designed to help you settle in
  • Simple, guided sushi preparation with an emphasis on shared rhythm rather than skill
  • Moments of pause built naturally into the experience
  • Eating together slowly, with gentle prompts that invite awareness without forcing conversation
  • Time and space to simply be together

Many guests tell us they appreciate that it feels like more than a cooking class, and less like an event they have to “keep up with”.
