Migrant Melbourne: celebration of Vietnamese culture
Join us for a day of celebrating Vietnamese culture and the contribution of Vietnamese migrants to the heritage of Hobsons Bay!
We kick off with ‘In Conversation with André Dao’, author of Anam (2023), winner of the 2024 PM’s Literary Award. André will be interviewed by Myly Nguyen, President of the Vietnamese Association of Hobsons Bay and Hobsons Bay Citizen of the Year 2020. Anam is a novel based on the life of André’s grandfather and his political persecution in Vietnam, and spans decades and continents in exploring migrant family memory.
After a free Vietnamese lunch, learn how to record language, migration stories, and family histories with an oral history workshop led by Memory Lane Life Stories.
This celebration invites all community members to listen, share, and connect with the migrant cultural heritage of Vietnamese Australians in Hobsons Bay.
