Welcome to Microscope Mania 2026 - Sydney - The Treasure Hunt!

Join us at Microscope Mania 2026 – Sydney - The Treasure Hunt is a free, interactive STEM Microscope event where kids become explorers for the day. For the first time in our new Sydney showroom, our Microscope Mania series brings on an exciting microscopic adventure for kids and families. Using real microscopes, children will uncover hidden treasures in nature, investigate everyday objects, and discover that an entire world exists beyond what we can see with our eyes alone.

Hosted by Optics Central in collaboration with Saxon Australia and GO STEM, this microscope day is designed to make STEM learning exciting, accessible, and memorable.

Perfect for curious kids who love science, nature, and hands-on discovery.

Ready to join the Hunt? With 3 main stations and loads of fun activities, you and your kids must search, observe, compare, and create - you will be the treasure hunter of the microscopic world!

Hidden Treasure

Something valuable is buried, and we need your help to uncover it! Step into the role of an explorer as you carefully search through hidden materials to recover natural treasures. Using scientific tools and sharp observation skills, you’ll discover how scientists investigate rocks, sand, and the tiny details that most people miss.

The Mini Leaf Mystery

Discover the hidden secrets of the plant world! Become a young botanist as you explore familiar leaves and grasses under different levels of magnification. Watch as simple greenery transforms into intricate patterns and structures, revealing details you never knew were there.

The Magic Water Quest

Dive into a world that’s invisible to the naked eye! As a microscopic explorer, you’ll investigate what lives inside a single drop of water. Prepare to be amazed as tiny, living worlds come into view — sparking curiosity, imagination, and a whole new way of seeing science.

Art Zone

Unleash your inner science illustrator! In this creative challenge, you’ll complete half-finished images and transform them into something totally unexpected. Let your imagination run wild as you turn mysterious shapes into brilliant creations inspired by what you’ve discovered.

The Bingo Hunt

Think discovery only happens up close? Think again! Become a lookout explorer and use binoculars or a telescope to scan the world outside. Compare what you see from far away with what you’ve observed under the microscope - and see how magnification changes everything.

Colour Corner

Need a moment to recharge? Relax like a true scientist between missions with science-themed colouring sheets and brain-teasing puzzles. It’s the perfect space to reflect on your discoveries while adding your own creative touch.

The Exploration Station

Ready to uncover hidden details in everyday objects? Step up as a curious investigator and take a closer look at familiar items in a whole new way. You’ll be amazed at the textures, patterns, and tiny secrets waiting to be revealed.
