MICK HARVEY In Conversation + FREE B-Movie Screening/Geniale Dilletanten Ex...
Fri. 1 April 2016, 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm AEDT
Alongside Nick Cave, Australian musician MICK HARVEY was part of the Boys Next Door/Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds, one of the first wave of local artists to head to Berlin during its heydays. With a special ‘Berlin during the 1980s’ photo exhibition entitled “Brilliant Dilletantes” coming to Sydney on its tour around Oz, we’ve decided to screen the brilliantly bristling documentary “B-Movie Lust & Sound In West Berlin 1979-89″ at the gallery and ask Mick Harvey along for a post-screening, in-depth chat.
Mick Harvey not only lived and played in Berlin during the period covered by the film and exhibit – a decade bookended by post-punk and the birth of the Love Parade dance parties – he also knew the film’s energetic, entertaining protagonist Mark Reeder (MFS/Factory Records) well. Mick will therefore be chatting about this period of trashy, druggy, anarchic, creative revival and what it was like to work and wade his way through it, alongside artists like Joy Division, Gudrun Gut, Blixa Bargeld, Einstürzende Neubauten, Malaria!, Cristiane F, DJ Wesbam who all feature in the film. Mick will be chatting with journalist Paris Pompor, but come early to check out the exhibition, watch the film and then hear Mick’s stories and find out what’s coming up for him in the future.
