MHCMS Sarod Recital - Ustad Irfan Khan
Join us for a Hindustani Classical Music Sarod recital presented by Ustad Irfan Khan, accompanied by Bobby Singh on Tabla
The Melbourne Hindustani Classical Music Society (MHCMS) is honoured to present a rare sarod recital by Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan, one of the most respected torchbearers of the Sarod tradition.
An eighth-generation descendant of the family credited with the invention of the sarod nearly 200 years ago, Ustad Irfan Khan was trained by legendary maestros including his uncle Ustad Ilyas Khan and his father Ustad Umar Khan. A widely travelled scholar-musician, he has performed across India, Europe, and the United States, and has also served as a faculty member at the Afghan National Institute of Music in Kabul.
Ustad Irfan Khan will be accompanied by highly accomplished Australian Tabla player, Bobby Singh. Bobby was one of the musicians responsible for the album Djan Djan, which won the 2010 ARIA Award for Best World Music Album. He is also a member of Rasa Duende, and was the subject of the documentary Viva, I Belong Everywhere, that was broadcast nationally on SBS TV in May 2005.[4]
