Overview

Have A Seat At My Table is my idea of a way to connect artists to the wider community through a community engaged art project.

Have A Seat At My Table is my idea of a way to connect artists to the wider community through a community engaged art project. My concept of each individual who joins the creating table will be creating single flowers out of recycled metal under my guidance, they will then be added together with others flowers onto a large mesh frame to become part of a joint project between artist, council and community. To create one flower is fabulous, but by joining all our flowers together we will create something amazing that anyone can be participate in. This collaboration will expand into something beyond what we could create alone. Our finished project will then be installed in the community garden area behind the Emerald Library, helping to beautify the area. This offers everyone a chance to be engaged in a community based project with in our region that will beautify the community garden space in the art precinct and give them a real connection to the area. As the project will be in panels, we can extend the project if desired at any time.

Being a recycled metal project, using many different types of metals, caps and lids each individual flower will be unique and those involved with the project will be able to identify their own work. This will establish a great sense of pride and ownership for the project. The Star Hotel is partnering with the project to provide bottle caps for consumable materials to go into the project, it will help to create a real community project. The recycled metal used will create it own unique patina over time, so as we start the project with some colour, this will alter and change with time.

The Star Hotel is partnering with the project to provide bottle caps for consumable materials to go into the project, it will help to create a real community project. By inviting people to bring along some of their own recycled bottle caps and lids, they can be part of this creative project in more than just a creative way. Inviting other community members to be part of this project through a recycling initiative, will connect businesses and individuals together. This helps to promote recycling as part of our lifestyle and challenges everyone to get creative with recycling ideas.
