Meet an author: J.P. Pomare

Broadbeach LibraryMermaid Waters, QLD

Overview

Join us for an unmissable night at the library with one of the leading names in Australian crime literature, J.P. Pomare.

J.P. Pomare’s latest novel, The Gambler, is the first in a new highly-charged crime series following PI Vince Reid.

PI Vince Reid is convinced he’ll never work again. An explosive investigation has left him burned out and somewhat of a local celebrity. While visiting an old friend, he's offered a case he can't refuse: Why did a respected local woman open fire at a political rally, killing a promising young university graduate? It's easy money, he's told. A sure thing.

But as Reid delves further into the case, the stakes are higher than he imagined. There are invisible players pulling the strings. Will he walk away a winner or pay for the ultimate gamble with his life?

J.P. Pomare is an award-winning crime fiction author, whose debut novel Call Me Evie (2018) won the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best First Novel. Several of his novels have been shortlisted for the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Novel and the Ned Kelly Award for Best Crime Fiction. Two of his novels, In the Clearing (2019) and The Last Guests (2021), have been made into original TV series and a third, 17 Years Later (2024), is currently being adapted for the screen.
