About this event

🌟 Medicines are poisons if not given as per legislative requirements.

Increasingly home care providers are being expected to assist older people with their medication regimes. Understanding how to do this safely is imperative to ensure correct protocols are followed.

🌟 Do you know:

  • What training does the workforce need regarding medication management?
  • What documentation is required?
  • What policies and procedures should be in place?
  • What is the scope of each member of the workforce?
  • What legislation and regulations apply to in-home aged care?
  • What might go wrong? What are the legal requirements?

🌟What is new in medication management in the community?

LPA’s clinicians are often providing advice and education to providers about medication management within the home care environment. The Guiding Principles for Medication Management in the Community, released in November 2022, includes 12 Principles to be followed. There is a requirement for providers to have trained, competent staff; effective policies and procedures; incident management, and correct documentation. The reforms already announced for in-home aged care indicate a much greater need for awareness and training in clinical care and medication management is a key aspect of that. LPA has been providing medication management training and skills testing for over 15 years to the home care sector. This interactive online course will equip you to train frontline workers in the key aspects of medication management.

🔥 Overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to train others in safe and high-quality medication management. It will clarify exactly what your service needs to have in place to ensure you can support consumers with medication management. We will have our experienced clinicians and a representative from WebsterCare. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask live questions during the training.

As part of this course, we have partnered with WebsterCare, who will provide each attendee with a Webster training pack at the conclusion of this event if you so choose.

🚩 Learning Outcomes

By the end of this very interactive training session, you will learn:

  • Explain the key definitions, standards, guidelines and jurisdictional regulatory requirements including the new Guidelines.
  • Describe training required to ‘ASSIST’ and/or ‘DELIVER’ medications.
  • Explain medication documentation and accountabilities.
  • Describe risk management and contingencies in medication management.
  • Discuss the use of dose administration aids (Webster packs) and strategies to establish support from the community pharmacist.

Regarding online training, we know that staring into the “virtual classroom” can sometimes miss those moments that face-to-face events deliver. So, we are mixing things up. In a time of transformation in the sector, we want to ensure that you are supported now more than ever. We will focus even more on interactive, immersive training sessions (think break-out rooms, cameras on (yes, scary), opportunities to network, and maintaining the LPA way of tangible tools and resources).
