In the lead up to Progress 2019, Digital Storytellers and Nicola Paris from CounterAct are excited to be presenting a 1-day workshop to unleash the power of short, sharp and shareable digital storytelling for grassroots activists.
Often powerful stories from the grassroots are not shared due to capacity, skill and time restraints.
This workshop will focus on how to embed fast-turnaround video storytelling in activist movements, using the power of your smartphone and minimal (or no!) additional equipment and how to strategise and work effectively with traditional media.
This workshop will cover the following:
-
Elements of a powerful story and how to build them into storytelling into your campaign
-
Identifying authentic storytellers within the movement
-
Narrative and story formats suitable for fast-turnaround content
-
Capturing footage and audio with your smartphone in difficult scenarios and environments
-
Simple and effective smartphone/laptop editing software
-
Developing confidence in front of the camera - for traditional and social media
-
Building a narrative in a rapid response situation & effective action design
-
You will also receive tools about how to best use twitter, facebook and instagram effectively to boost your story outside your direct circles.
We are excited to bring our combined skills together - combining the narrative story design, and creative professional skills of Digital Storytellers, with the practical action experience of CounterAct.
