Description

A COAG Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) has been released examining options to improve transparency in the eastern and northern Australian gas markets.

The RIS focuses on addressing information gaps and asymmetries relating to gas and infrastructure prices, supply and availability of gas, gas demand, and infrastructure used to supply gas to end-markets.

Stakeholder meetings will be held in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney during the consultation period to provide an overview of the RIS and respond to any questions regarding the information and RIS process.

Organised by

The Commonwealth Department of the Environment and Energy  has developed a consultation package of measures to improve transparency in the gas market.

This work responds to COAG Energy Council’s (Council) decision in December 2018 to task Officials with consulting on the measures recommended by the AEMC, ACCC and GMRG. It includes the draft amendments required to implement them in order to inform the design of a final package of measures for Council's endorsement.
