About this event

Honey Wines Australia is the only operating licensed meadery in the Hunter Region. In case you have not heard of mead, it is a wine that is made from honey instead of grapes.

Honey Wines Australia is the only meadery in the Hunter Region. In case you have not heard of mead, it is a wine that is made from fermented honey instead of grapes.

This tasting event location is at our small honey and mead shop in Broke.

PLEASE NOTE: Sessions are during our normal opening hours and can have walk-in customers however priority service is given to bookings.

We will first do a mead tasting in the bar area of some of the various flavours we produce. Usually, 6 meads will be selected to taste via a paddle board of 25ml shot glasses. I'll talk about mead and bees and answer any mead or beekeeping-related questions you might have.

Current mead flavours in stock include:

Hunter Valley Mead (Plain)

Peach & Passionfruit

Turkish Delight

Lemon & Ginger

Apple

Pink Grapefruit & Orange

Vanilla

Cherry & Coconut

Following the mead tasting, we will taste a few local honey varieties including raw honey, creamed honey, chilli honey and depending on stock availability, chocolate or vanilla honey.

Although there is no pressure to, guests will have the opportunity to buy from our range at the end if they wish.

The average price of a 750ml bottle of mead is $35.

Mead goes hand in hand with Viking products and we also stock a range of drinking horn cups and mugs which make excellent gifts.

The experience usually goes for 45-60 mins, depending on how many people in the session.
