MDW2026 - Touching Grass

suite 6 level 4/20 Collins StMelbourne, VIC
Friday, May 15 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm
Overview

Live ambient soundscape to introduce the Touching Grass exhibition, a collaboration between Ming Li, Tyler Leung and Asish Mohapatra

OPENING NIGHT:

Please join us in this immersive listening experience that invites you to slow down and reconnect with yourself, and your environment. By the time the final notes fade, we hope you will feel ready to touch, to listen, to interact with our exhibition.

THE EXHIBITION:

Touching Grass is an interactive exhibition that invites visitors to explore sonic and sensorial presence, to slow down and reconnect with their bodies and the world around them.

The exhibition space will feature three to four distinct sensory and sonic experiences, each designed to evoke a different emotional resonance and offer alternate pathways to grounding oneself.

The fundamental idea behind Touching Grass is that music perception and presence is inherently multisensory. In daily life we often forget to slow down and engage with experiences to their fullest, skimming only the surface of what surrounds us. Visitors are invited to interact directly with physical textures, shaping sound through their own gestures and movements, turning the audience into the performer.

In a time when our interactions with nature are increasingly mediated through screens, Touching Grass reimagines technology as a tool for sensory restoration rather than distraction. By merging organic materials with digital systems, the exhibition asks how we might design technologies that deepen our connection with the living world, rather than distance us from it.

Please note that only the opening night performance is ticketed, the exhibition itself is free in the following days
