McDouall Stuart hitches a ride - Author Talk with Rosemary Cadden

Journalist and adventurer Rosemary Cadden discusses how following the tracks of fellow Scot, explorer John McDouall Stuart, evolved into a book that takes the reader on her road trip through the centre of Australia, providing insight into how land and lifestyles have changed over the past 150 years.

In the late 1850s and early 1860, John McDouall Stuart led six expeditions into the Australian interior – culminating with an epic crossing – and return – on his final journey. Stuart was a slight, small man, a social misfit and heavy drinker. Yet he would go on to become perhaps the greatest explorer of the Australian interior in history.
