Exploring the relationship between plants and people

Professor Mabberley returns to Adelaide to deliver his fifth lecture series.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from one of the world's great botanical minds.

Our daily lives are full of close encounters with the plant kingdom - including food, textiles, medicines, drugs, dyes, pesticides and perfumes. In this two-day course you will learn about the fascinating world of what is in fact the human side of plant-animal interactions.

This course in not only for botanists and ethnobotanists, but for all those interested in the biological baisis of human society. The course will teach a far deeper understanding of plants; how they have shaped our past and how they can impact our future.

Programme: Professor Mabberely will present 6 lecture - demonstrations, supplemented by economic plant material from the rich collections of the Botanic Gardens of South Australia, the State Herbarium and commercial products.

Professor David Mabberley, formerly Director of the Herbarium, Library, Art and Archives, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Executive Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust in Sydney.

With degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge and 20 years as a Tutorial Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, David Mabberely has had a distinguished botanical career in academia and is recognised as an eminent botanist, historian and authority in botanical art. Currently, he is an Emeritus Fellow, Wadham College, University of Oxford, and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.

David Mabberely is a prolific author with almost 300 publications including 20 books. The indispensable Mabberley's Plant-Book is a classic botanical reference which gives an overview of the world's flora and is currently in its fourth edition.
