About this event

  • 1 hour

Australian crime fiction often reveals national myths and fantasies (especially about the outback) and contains layered social commentary that still feeds back to our penal colony days.

The first Australian crime novel appeared in 1818, however most titles have been published since 1980. Before 1980, most titles set in Australia arrived from England, because the “International Market Agreement” helped reinforce our colonial ties to Britain.

Crime writing in Australia is seeing a return in popularity, and spans the beach to the outback with everything in between. Hawkeye authors, Jack Roney, K.M. Steele and Troy Henderson discuss the many different subgenres of crime writing in this lively panel talk between the three authors.

Books will be available for purchase on the day, or bring a copy from home to be signed.
