Keynote Speakers
Yasmine Ahmed
UK Director, Human Rights Watch
With more than two decades of experience as a public international lawyer and human rights advocate, Yasmine has worked across global institutions including the United Nations, the UK and Australian governments, and international tribunals in the former Yugoslavia and Timor-Leste.
A Chevening Scholar with an LLM in Public International Law from SOAS, she has also taught at SOAS and the University of Adelaide.
Before joining Human Rights Watch, Yasmine led Rights and Security International and began her legal career supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Australia. Her work offers a powerful lens into the realities of human rights today.
Mustafa Qadri
Founder and CEO, Equidem
Mustafa is a leading human rights research and advocacy expert with 20 years of interdisciplinary experience spanning government, journalism, public international law and the NGO sector.
He has conducted major human rights investigations in Palestine, Afghanistan, Nepal and across the Middle East and Africa, and now oversees Equidem’s global research and advocacy. His expertise provides a grounded, field-based understanding of justice, labour rights and accountability.

Dr Imran Lum
Imran is the Head of Islamic Finance at a major Australian bank, where he developed Australia’s first multi award-winning Islamic business banking offering. He is the author of A Comparative Study of Islamic Finance in Australia and the UK (Routledge, 2022), and hosts the podcasts Muslim Money and Arabic with Imran Lum, with over 450,000 downloads.
Previously, he served on the Board of the Australia-ASEAN Council, was an Honorary Research Fellow at ACU, and was the 2019 Corporate Winner in the 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australians Awards.
Dr Anisa Buckley
Anisa has over twenty years’ experience working with Muslim communities across Australia in Islamic education, capacity building and Muslim women’s advocacy.
She is currently an Authorised Credit Representative (Finance Broker) with Amanah Islamic Finance and continues to publish on Islamic law, gender and Muslim minorities.
Anisa is the author of Not "Completely" Divorced: Muslim Women in Australia Navigating Muslim Family Laws (Melbourne University Press). She has also served as a founding Board Member of the Islamic Museum of Australia and Co-Chair of the Australian Muslim Women’s Centre for Human Rights.
