Event description

Description

The Manukau Innovation Challange is competition between AUT and MIT undergraduate students to develop urban improvement ideas for Manukau into validated businesses propositions, that can be taken forward by students, council or companies. This Assemble event is for MIT students and brings together relevant speakers to inspire, and startup practitioners to teach. Then the Idea Pitch event for MIT students on 18 August is all about picking the ideas and building the teams. What follows is an eight-week-slog to validate the market, build a tech prototype and evolve the business model. Mentors will be available every Friday to help ready the teams for the final Judging event on 6 October 2016. Note: A separate Assemble event is planned for AUT.

The two big themes for the 2016 challenge are:

  1. People Movement - People can move around in more ways than one, so let's help them with that.

  2. Environment - Technology can play a big part in raising awareness of local environmental issues, so let's see what is possible in Manukau.

Working in teams of 5 you will work alongside smart city technologists and innovation and community practitioners to help bring your ideas to life. And in exchange for committing your time and energy over a period of three months to this challenge you will build valuable skills to help you accelerate innovation and ideas - including start up skills, team building, lean canvas, pitch presentation, and access to the right people to help your ideas soar.
