Mallacoota March Birders Big Weekend 2022

When: Main weekend: Labour Day weekend Friday 11 to Tuesday 15 March 2022

Pre-weekend: Tuesday 8 March to Thursday 10 March 2022.

Where: Mallacoota, far East Gippsland

An informal birding long-weekend over Labour Day holiday, supported by local knowledge. Do your own thing, share ideas and sightings, or join top birders & photographers on shared walks, and optional boat trips. Walk suggestions and maps will be provided to those who register. This is a chance to support the communities of East Gippsland a year after the fires, and to help with post-bushfire bird counts.

Cost: $20 per person, all proceeds will be donated to BirdLife Australia’s Bushfire Recovery program. Some optional extra activities will have an extra cost.

All activities are included in Birders Attendance ticket, unless noted with a cost or "shared cost" on the program below.

Wednesday 9 March

7am - 5pm All day Howe Flat boat transfer (shared cost)

Thursday 10 March: Cann River - Noorinbee day

9am - 11am Noorinbee suggested walks & drives(unguided)

12noon - 2pm EDIT: Walk at Cann River Bushland Rainforest. Due to track works, our walk will now be on the north side of the river (shared activity, unguided)

4pm - 6pm Billabong, walks and sundowners at a private property on the Cann River. (no cost, RSVP req'd, limited numbers. Details for RSVP will be sent out with email to ticket holders)

Friday 11 March

Morning walk (unguided): Gipsy Point. Suggested time: 9 to 11am

Afternoon walk (unguided): Drummer Rainforest. Suggested time: 3-4pm or whenever you drive past.

Drive alternative if in Mallacoota: Drive & stop 1 Captain Stevensons Point. Suggested time: 4 to 6pm

7pm Welcome drinks (no cost, RSVP req'd, limited numbers. Details for RSVP will be sent out with email to ticket holders)

Saturday 12 March
