Cultural Programs provides the community with inclusive and accessible opportunities to make genuine connections through storytelling, cultural experiences, knowledge sharing and learning.

Cultural Programs and Services

This Valentine’s Day, ramp up the romance by bringing your date to our Maker Play Date. Get to know them while you get crafty with our hands-on activities. Alternatively, if you’re a lover of making things, gather your pals for a fun evening of tinkering.
We’ll set the mood with a choice of love-themed crafty tasks to help kindle the spark. You can fashion an LED paper rose or heart, write a cash register love poem, publish your own Zine or add to our Chain Reaction Machine. 
The library is your oyster; rove around the different makerspace stations and add some craft to your courtship. We’ll also have some music by Queen Porter Stomp to help get you inspired. 
 
LED paper roses and hearts
Light up a heart or a rose by combining paper craft and electronics. 
 
Chain Reaction Machine
Inspired by the Rube Goldberg machine, use objects and circuits to engineer a gadget, just like the American inventor. Then, set off the contraption built by the next team.
 
Cash register love poems
Use our reprogrammed cash registers to write your own poetry, which prints out on the spot to surprise your special someone.
 
Zine making 
Love is in the air, so celebrate by creating your own zine. Publish your love story with text and images using pens, weeded books and stickers. 
 
Queen Porter Stomp
This group packs a punch with blazing horns, a sizzling banjo and a ukulele songstress. A blend of folk, jazz and world music to make you warmer than a shot of bootleg whisky.
 
This event is suitable for adults 18+. Bookings are essential.
